Purpose
The Speech-language pathologist will work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders in children primarily and adults.
Reporting to the Therapy Services Coordinator, this position will work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team to evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders. The SLP will develop plans to treat speech, language, communication, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders.
Responsibilities and Activities
- Identify the speech and communication difficulty or disorder;
- Assess the cause and nature of the problem, for example, congenital problems (such as cleft palate) or acquired disorders after a stroke or injury;
- Plan and implement the speech and language programming in alignment with the needs of the individual;
- Conduct screenings and assessments using formal and informal speech and language measures;
- Implement and document outcome measures for services and participate in team meetings related to the client;
- Supervise and mentor the Speech-Language Assistant Team;
- Ensure service delivery is modelled with a family centered approach and remain in alignment with vision and values of In Sync Therapy;
- Work with Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and develop Individual Program Plan (ISP) goals, and monitor the status from implementation to execution;
- Complete treatment summary reports and assessments as required and ensure adequate documentation;
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team across daycare, preschool, school and home environments;
- Assess and record client activities and progress for client evaluations, and making recommendations for accessing additional therapy supports from other In Sync Therapy team members or to physicians and other healthcare providers as needed;
- Establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in order to ensuring optimal service delivery;
- Provide training and education to family/caregivers and other professionals;
- As required, participate in department or program improvements and initiatives, and attend educational workshops or developmental training related to the profession and/or client needs. These requirements may fall outside of the typical working schedule.
Education and Experience
- Completion of a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent;
- 3-5 years of field experience in rehabilitation including evaluation, treatment, case management, and program development;
- Must be registered and maintain good standing with Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA);
- Hold current Independent professional liability insurance;
- Valid Alberta driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle;
- Provide clearance from a criminal record check, must be current not exceeding 3 months;
- Child welfare check
- Previous experience with a focus on working with children and youth is an asset;
- Hold current First Aid/CPR status.
Knowledge
- Demonstrate a broad knowledge of Speech Therapy theory and practice;
- Strong knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care;
- Strong knowledge of Speech Language, Occupational, Physical and Psychology therapy terminology and proficiency in implementing them;
- Knowledge of integrated Listening Systems (iLs) is an asset
- Experienced in working on a multidisciplinary team to effectively treat and understand the needs of the client;
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word;
- Ability to work within and maintain a CRM.

Working Conditions
- Local travel may be required;
- Occasional ability to work evenings and weekends.
