Purpose

The Psychologist will assess, diagnose, and treat mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders and will help clients deal with problems ranging from short-term personal issues to severe, chronic conditions. The psychologist will work in partnership with their clients over a series of sessions in order to diagnose, assess and manage their condition. The Psychologist will often work alongside other professionals in multidisciplinary teams within the clinic in order to deal with their clients' complex problems.

Scope

Reporting to the CEO, the Psychologist will aim to reduce the distress and improve the psychological wellbeing of their clients. The Psychologist will use psychological methods and research to make positive changes to their clients' lives and offer various forms of treatment.

Responsibilities and Activities

  • Collect information through observations, interviews, surveys, and other methods;
  • Assess a client's needs, abilities or behaviour using a variety of methods, including psychometric tests, interviews and direct observation of behaviour;
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside social workers, education professionals, speech language pathologist, psychiatrists and occupational therapists;
  • Devise and monitor appropriate treatment programmes, including therapy, counselling or advice, in collaboration with colleagues;
  • Offer therapy and treatments for difficulties relating to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, addiction, social and interpersonal problems and challenging behaviour;
  • Develop and evaluate service provisions for clients;
  • Develop and provide workshops to parents, professionals and co-workers
  • Provide consultation to other professions, encouraging a psychological approach in their work;
  • Act as a liaison with community agencies that provide services to children.

 

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in psychology;
  • Must be registered or provisional and maintain good standing with the Alberta College of Psychologists;
  • 3-5 years of field experience as a Psychologist preferred;
  • Must have experience dealing with Alberta Government Support for Families of Children and Youth with Disabilities inclusive of PUF (Program Unit Funding) and Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD);
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle;
  • Provide clearance from a criminal record check, must be current not exceeding 3 months;
  • Hold current First Aid/CPR status.

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in individual, group, and family psychology;
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions;
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of standardized psychological tests including those applicable in testing the physically handicapped, socially or emotionally maladjusted;
  • Strong knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care;

●      Basic knowledge of Speech Language, Occupational, and Physical therapy terminology and proficiency in implementing them;

●      Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and procedures to support behaviour challenges

●      Knowledge of integrated Listening Systems (iLs) is an asset;

●      Experienced in working on a multidisciplinary team to effectively treat and understand the needs of the client;

●      Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word;

●      Ability to work within and maintain a CRM.

Working Condidtions

  • Local travel may be required;
  • Occasional ability to work evenings and weekends;

  • Lifting or moving up to 10lbs may be required;
  • Overtime as required.
