Position Title: Program Assistant

Type: Part Time

Location: David G. Hatch Unit, 55 S 3rd Ave, Sturgeon Bay, WI

Schedule: School Year: Monday - Friday, 2-6pm, Summer & School Breaks: Hours Vary

Wage: Starting at $15.00/hour

As a Program Assistant, you will responsible for leading engaging activities, providing targeted academic support to our members, and filling-in where needed during program hours. The Program Assistant will cover staff breaks and absences, assist with meal service, general cleaning, and more as assigned by supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sets and maintains high expectations for members.
  • During shift, supports numerous program areas to cover staff breaks, transition periods, meals, and clean-up.
  • Follow daily schedule and promptly report to different program areas as assigned.
  • Assist with meal & snack prep and service.
  • Facilitate and manage group enrichment activities while maintaining a fun, yet productive environment (10-15 members).
  • Implement the delivery of program components, making certain that participants are engaged and are adequately supervised.
  • Keeps accurate records regarding participating members’ attendance.
  • Communicates with BGC leadership about concerns about individual members’ academic and emotional abilities and needs.
  • Supports the Assistant Unit Manager and other staff in keeping the Clubhouse neat and organized. Ensures that work area fosters physical and emotional safety.
  • Creates a positive atmosphere, fosters teamwork and constructive exchange of ideas with peers. Flexible in programming to support the overall mission of the club.
  • Participates in club-wide events and fieldtrips as needed.
  • Demonstrates respect for other staff members’ time by being prompt to scheduled meetings and well prepared to do your job every day.
  • Flexible with hours as needed for the Club to best serve its members.
  • Utilizes the Youth Development Strategy in alignment with Club rules & policies to maintain a positive behavioral environment. Report severe infractions to supervisor.

  • Capable of working with groups of children, helping them to focus on homework and enrichment activities.
  • Ability to relate to and be approachable by Club Members and Staff.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to quickly shift between activities
  • Ability to multitask and problem solve.
  • Maturity and strong communication skills.
  • Energy, leadership skills, strong initiative, ability to motivate through positive reinforcement.
  • High school degree or equivalent highly preferred; high school senior with strong interest in education are invited to apply. 
  • Must be at least 18 years old (per Boys & Girls Club of America requirements)
