About the opportunity:

In terms of requirements the roles need are primarily strong Java skills, ideally with Spring knowledge and comfort as well. Agile familiarity is key as well and exposure to pipeline tools like Jenkins/Bamboo would also be helpful. As a bonus Python exposure would also be nice, but definitely less of a requirement.

The initiative is the next version of an Auto Rating Program which is essentially the products, criteria, and rules around how to price Auto insurance. The objective is to increase profitability and position the Client for future growth. That being said what makes it unique and significant from past iterations is that as part of the project they are baking modernization of many of key architecture components into the project itself, by converting portions of stack like rating services, underwriting rules, and product configuration to microservices and a more modern architecture. This has all sorts of spiderwebbing impacts through other layers, and has all the usual challenges you’d expect in a brown fields modernization effort.

All candidates will be required to take a Java Development test (1 Hour, timed, open-book/reference test). We will need both the attached Candidate Submission form and Candidate profile along with a current resume to consider any candidates. Finally, please confirm with your candidates that they will be willing and able to complete the test in no more than two days from receiving the test link. Test links are sent out within 24 hour of submittal to the client so cover this upfront with anyone you submit! My client will immediately schedule Skype/Phone interviews with anyone that scores an 80% or better on the test.

As a Sr./Java Developer you’ll design, implement and deploy Java application solutions for various client projects. Your ability to think at both high level and in a detail-oriented way helps in your delivery of successful projects for our firm.

On a given project, you’ll successfully architect solutions that integrate with other key enterprise systems, provide technical design, instruction and guidance to a team of developers. You’ll work closely with the business to determine functional requirements and desired functionality. You’ll be responsible for code reviews, documentation and deployment specifications.

You keep up to date on emerging technologies to help our team continue to leverage the latest technology tool – evaluating applicability to our client’s needs and operational requirements. You continue to stretch your skillset by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

Our Must Have List

* Java SE 8 (& maybe Java EE 7, incl JSP, JSF, etc),

* Spring 4+ (including: Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Microservices),

* Hibernate,

* JavaScript/JQuery (plus, Angular and/or React nice-to-have),

* REST/Web Services/JSON,

* 7+ years relevant dev experience,

* 2-3+ yrs. experience technical leadership,

* Agile/Scrum team experience

* Cloud experience with AWS, Pivotal Cloud Foundry and/or Heroku preferred.

* Experience with other development languages a plus

* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

* Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication

* Ability to work in a fast paced environment managing multiple priorities
