Project Details
Haiti-Now is dedicated to empowering Haitian girls living in domestic servitude to overcome poverty and exploitation to achieve economic security.

When onboarding your first assignment will be to start a fundraising campaign. Haiti Now will provide further guidance for you to have a quick and successful fundraiser.

Role brief:
We are seeing an Volunteer who is experienced English/creole translator to interpret and facilitate effective communication with individuals, companies, courts, schools, or other interested parties.

Responsibilities:
Carefully listens to or reads content including jargon and acronyms in the original language.
Understands and analyzes what is being said or written, and the message, intent, and nuances being communicated.
Reproduces statements or questions in the desired output language.
Provides simultaneous interpretation (SI) or consecutive interpretation (CI) depending on the desired outcome.
Uses equipment such as microphones or headsets as needed to ensure precise and timely translations or interpretations.
Gathers develops and maintains lists of terminology and information that may be used in technical translations such as legal or medical materials.
Protects the confidentiality of the information and adheres to any related ethical or professional codes.
Performs other related duties as assigned


Qualifications/Requirements:

Ideally, we need translators born in Haiti and attended school in Haiti up to 8/9th grade.
Applicants would be assessed on their fluency in creole speaking and writing.
Fluency in, and thorough understanding of, the primary language(s) being translated.
The Creole must be the mother tongue.
Superior verbal and written communication skills in applicable languages.
Excellent listening skills and auditory recall as needed to remember spoken words and accurately reproduce them in the desired language.
Ability to commit Volunteering for 5+ hour/ week

Preferred skills: Knowledge and experience with a non-profit with content management, customer relationship management or related systems and software. Knowledge of Slack, Trello and Google drive.
